The colour is an intense ruby red with sumptuous purple highlights while the bouquet exhibits wild red berry fruit, ripe black cherry, with nuances of rose petals, pungent balsam, and spice. In the mouth one feels that majestic entry, with succulent, pulpy red fleshed fruit, complemented by impressions of spice, pipe tobacco, and pencil lead. Tannins are noticeable, but supple. The finish is lengthy and intense. A red wine of superb structure and longevity made only in the finest growing years. 90% Sangiovese, 10% Uva Longanesi. Do savour this wine with slow-cooked meats, meat pizzas and lasagna as well as with aged Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.

Umberto Cesari Tauleto 2016 is produced from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Bursona longanesii - a grape that gives red wine rich and fruity aromas of black cherry, spice, cocoa flavours as well as powerful tannins. Look for ripe dark cherry, chocolate, dried sweet tobacco leaf and toasty oak spice on this Emilia Romagna red. Good now, better in 2023 or cellar to 2030.
